Does your child have a disability on the autism spectrum?  Does your child's disability affect social skills development or make your child vulnerable to bullying, harassment, or teasing?

If you answered "yes" to either question, Massachusetts law now requires that your child's IEP team consider and address the skills and proficiencies your child needs to avoid and respond to bullying.  Consider bringing this issue up at your next IEP meeting, or request an IEP meeting today if bullying is a particular concern.

Because this law is new, you might need to educate your child's school of these requirements.  Remember the ultimate goal of the new law - protecting our children from bullying.

Hello,

I have a situation in Wareham, MA with my daughter 17yrs of age, being bullied at school by other girls her age. She has been on an IEP for learning disability for Math/English most of her years at Wareham Public Schools since third grade. She has a very serious medical condition MELAS, that very much affects her learning and days at school.
Meanwhile, Some girls at school are taunting, stalking, and sent two death threat videos by facebook along with two other "gross videos". The problem is the school made up fabricated stories and took there time calling me back, still to this date I have no idea, what or where or how these girls got punished other than, "they were talked to" But this group of girls are vicious and probally laughed this type of punishment off. Even the police officer fabricated a storys saying the death threat video, came from Alaska, and it was just a virus.?? (I knew excatly who they came from, a girl from another local school nearby). And the police officer on duty as I was telling her my story about my daughter being harrased she thought noting of it. Nor did the Ass Prin., or Prin of Wareham High School. I just talked to the Superindent of school, but Student Services called to tell me basically my ddaughter had no proof. (my daughter is an excellant, comendable sweetheart) and would never hurt or say anything. As she is very quiet person. I did call the Plymouth DA's office. Just wondering if I needed a person like your self to help her feel safe at school. Because I don't feel safe bringing her back there, not knowing, they took no action towards the girls. If you can help, my email is rdrummey06@comcast.net, and phone is 774-454-2368 my name is Donna Drummey. Or any information would be great. Thank you.
